Description

Room 401

This presentation will provide an overview of the latest technologies being deployed in cable networks to provide 10 Gbps services to customers. The focus on will be on the four major tenets of 10G networks: reliability, security, speed, and latency. After an explanation of the 10G platform, modern cable network technologies will be compared to fiber-to-the-home technologies and several common myths about cable networks will be analyzed. Examples will be used to demonstrate how cable networks will compete with fiber-to-the-home networks to deliver 10 Gbps services to homes and how cable’s 10G networks can use edge computing to minimize latency and increase reliability. One of cable’s recent innovations, the Generic Access Platform, will be explained, along with an overview of how edge computing can be easily deployed in such a platform to place significant computing power at the edge of the network (within the last mile). Finally, the latest work on immersive video technologies will be explained, with an emphasis on how edge computing will enable immersive gaming and other latency-sensitive applications.

Short Description
