Description

Session Evaluation
The fiber optic networks that connect America’s homes and businesses to broadband services enable advanced-technology connectivity for families and workers. Behind the scenes, however, the construction projects through which these networks are built can be fraught with low-tech processes and tools that can lead to delays and rework. This session examines these issues from a problem/solution perspective. It begins with survey data from the service providers who face these challenges, documenting their experiences in both aerial and underground construction projects and assessing the segments of the process that could most benefit from digital technologies. The session then invokes a panel of experts experienced in the application of digital technologies to construction projects. Using a question-and-answer format, the panel describes the technology tools available to meet some of the industry’s biggest needs, along with practical approaches to applying those tools. The panel also will cite real-world examples of addressing the pain points identified in the survey.
