Name
Meeting the Robust Connectivity Needs for the Next Generation of Commercial Venues

Description

According to the EIA CBECS, there are over 5.9 million commercial buildings in the U.S., up 22% from 2003. As developers feel pressure to modernize their facilities and venues by installing the latest in digital technologies and services, robust in-building connectivity has become a fourth utility—equally important as water, gas, and electricity.

However, population density, thick walls, steel structures, and other factors create challenges in providing the ubiquitous indoor connectivity people expect. Wireless networks capable of meeting the needs of comprehensive venues or mixed-use facilities almost always require fiber-to-the-edge (FTTx), often incorporate a mix of 4G, 5G and private networks, and the ability to allocate bandwidth to support specific tasks. This session will detail the process of outfitting in-building cellular networks in high profile venues by chronicling the wireless journey of Hudson Yards in New York, a mini metropolis featuring residential, restaurants, hotels, and more.

Attendees will:
1. Gain a high-level understanding of how to architect these elaborate in-building wireless communication networks including common challenges and solutions.
2. Learn the different key stakeholders in this process, such as developers, systems integrators, and OEMs, and how they can collaborate effectively to design seamless in-building wireless communication networks.
3. Learn the unique wireless communication challenges within different structures of buildings, and also how the needs of end users impact the installation process.
